1/14/2024 0 Comments Bato rouge name origin![]() ![]() ![]() After completing many questionnaires and after several visits by four AJLA staff and directors, the Junior League Service League of Baton Rouge was admitted into AJLA in January, 1956. ![]() In 1950-51 the Baton Rouge Service League made an application for membership to AJLA. does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, religion or national origin. Prospective members are sponsored by four Junior League members. Women are eligible for admission between the ages of 24 and 40, with a one year Baton Rouge residency. It was decided at this meeting that each person would suggest one other person to compose the first active membership of 50 persons.Ĭriteria for membership include an interest in voluntarism, commitment to community service and an interest in developing one’s own potential for voluntary community participation. The Junior League of Baton Rouge was officially organized on March 15, 1932, when a group of 25 young women met at the home of Mrs. The National Association of Junior Leagues was founded in New York City in 1901 under the original name “The Junior League for the Promotion of Settlement Movements” (The settlement movement was a reformist social movement, beginning in the 1880s and peaking around the 1920s in England and the US, with a goal of getting the rich and poor in society to live more closely together in an interdependent community). The Junior League is an international organization of women whose three fold purpose is to promote voluntarism, train volunteers and demonstrate the effectiveness of trained volunteers. ![]()
